Contemporary 'grand design' dwelling.
Former Reservoir, Barton Le Clay, Bedfordshire

The simple contextual setting of the design and the recessive use of materials is to be supported.  -  Chilterns Conservation Board

'...the proposal represents high quality development that responds positively to the topography of the site and seeks to use materials that would be appropriate in the context of the area.'  -  Central Bedfordshire Planning Department

Conversion and alterations of a former covered reservoir to form a 4-storey contemporary one-off house partly set within a hill in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  With amazing far reaching views over the countryside, this . Material palette includes a flint 'ground' floor with natural timber above against the backdrop of trees, with meadow roof over. Large overhangs provide a terrace, reduce solar glare, limit light pollution to the Dark Skies and help against overheating. Two further floors below ground level contain swimming pool, gym, cinema and entertaining spaces. Double height spaces and a central internal courtyard allow natural light to flood all floors.

A truly special, grand design in a unique location.

Status: FULL PLANNING APPROVED JANUARY 2023.
