Treetop View, Pennington Common

Internal and external refurbishment of house overlooking Pennington Common, Lymington

Status: Complete

Working with a limited budget, this tired 1990s build house was in need of modernisation.  It has been transformed to make the most of views and sunlight whilst re-configuring the internal layout to meet the needs of modern family living.A previous side extension, meant no natural light reached the landing at the centre of the plan; here we removed the ceiling over the staircase which allowed an 8m vaulted space with south facing rooflight over, this area is now the brightest in the house and the sun sweeps over the space illuminating the entire first floor and entrance hallway below.  Feature LED lighting and artwork set the space off.

On the ground floor, a north facing kitchen with three doorways meant the kitchen was like a hallway.  The removal of two walls opens this space to the living and dining area, being at 90 degrees from the living area allows a 'broken' plan so whilst still open, the living area can be used a stand alone space.

Small windows from the master bedroom have been replaced with large french doors with a new balcony, which sits over a bay window so loss of light to room below.  The balcony totally transforms the feel of the house which enjoys south facing aspect with views over the common and to the Isle of Wight in the distance.

Windows have been replaced to black flush-fit units, which suit the new black timber eaves.  A new contemporary front door completes the transformation.
